Interview
Tips While
a person can spend a great deal of time and money on researching
how to interview, the most important point to keep in mind
is to cater your interview style and questions, just like
your resume, to the potential employer's needs. Here are some
general interview tips from an employer's standpoint: Preparation
before the interview:
- When
expecting phone calls from potential employers, be sure
you have a professional sounding message on your answering
machine.
Research
the company.
Prepare
the questions you would like to ask the potential employer
and anticipate questions you will likely be asked.
- Have
copies of your resume.
The
Day of the Interview:
- Give
yourself plenty of time to arrive at your scheduled time.
Try to arrive 10-15 minutes early.
Be
in a selling mode. Sell yourself, your experience and ability
to do the job.
Stay
away from any negative aspects of the industry or previous
jobs.
Be
cordial to everybody
Be
sincere and genuine
Be
consistent
Take
time to think about the question before answering. A good
tip is to repeat the question in your answer. Keep conversation
simple and avoid complex explanations. Stick to job related
answers.
Make
sure you give a firm handshake and maintain good eye contact.
Dress
for the position you want. Wear Proper business attire.
Suit or sportcoat is desired but decide according to position.
Keep in mind that first impressions are important.
- A
positive closing comment "I appreciate the time
you've spent with me today and based on what you've
shared with me about your company, I'm looking forward
to becoming part of your team."
To summarize,
first impressions mean a great deal in today's business
world. Prepare yourself to "WOW" the employer.
